The Power of Goal Setting and Business Audits in Flower Farming
Dec 09, 2024As a flower farmer, it’s easy to get swept up in the beauty and chaos of growing, arranging, and selling blooms. But behind every flourishing flower farm is a business that needs regular care and attention, just like the plants in our fields. In this episode of the Flower Farmer Forum podcast, I dove deep into the significance of intentional goal setting and regular business audits as tools for sustainable success.
Why Goal Setting Matters
Goal setting isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a foundational practice for growth. Yet, so many of us shy away from it, either because it feels overwhelming or because we fear falling short. Here’s the truth: everyone can improve at goal setting, and the process doesn’t have to be complicated.
When we set bite-sized goals, we give ourselves permission to enjoy the journey. Breaking big dreams into smaller, actionable steps makes progress feel achievable. For example, instead of declaring, “I want to increase sales this year,” try something specific like, “I will reach out to three local businesses this month to discuss subscription flower arrangements.” Small, clear goals lead to meaningful change over time.
The Role of Intention in Resilience
We often hear that time heals all wounds, but in my experience, it’s not just time—it’s intention. Resilience isn’t sustainable without deliberate action. Running a flower farm is full of ups and downs, and without intentionality, the challenges can feel insurmountable.
Take a moment to ask yourself: Are you operating reactively, or are you steering your business with purpose? Intentional goal setting helps transform the chaos into clarity and builds the resilience needed to thrive season after season.
Regular Business Audits: A Key to Growth
Just as we assess the health of our plants, we need to evaluate the health of our businesses. Regular audits help us pinpoint what’s working, what isn’t, and where we can improve. These audits don’t need to be formal or intimidating—they can be as simple as sitting down at the end of each month to reflect on your wins, challenges, and areas for improvement.
Audits are also a great opportunity to celebrate your successes, no matter how small they may seem. Remember, sustainable success isn’t about perfection; it’s about creating habits that support growth.
The Power of Community and Accountability
Goal setting doesn’t have to be a solo endeavor. In fact, community support can enhance accountability and make the process more enjoyable. That’s why I created my new course, Petals and Profits Weekly Challenges. This program is designed to help flower farmers like you set actionable goals and stay on track through weekly challenges and group accountability. Together, we can take steps toward building the businesses we dream of, one manageable goal at a time.
Start Today
Don’t wait for the new year to start planning. Use time as a tool for growth, not just a passive measurement. Take one small step today—whether it’s setting a goal, completing a business audit, or joining a supportive community—and watch how those steps bloom into meaningful change.
